NDMA is a State Corporation established under the NDMA Act, 2016, mandated to coordinate all matters relating to drought risk management and to establish mechanisms to end drought emergencies in Kenya. What These Roles Involve
Director, Research & Data Informatics (NDMA 2) — the most senior hire in this batch. You’ll lead NDMA’s research agenda, data systems, and informatics function. Responsibilities include overseeing drought early warning data systems, managing research partnerships, and ensuring data-driven decision-making across the Authority. Expect a Master’s degree and 10+ years of relevant senior experience.
Deputy Director, Planning Monitoring & Evaluation (NDMA 3) — leads the Authority’s planning cycle, M&E frameworks, and performance reporting. You’ll coordinate the preparation of strategic plans, annual work plans, and performance contracts, and ensure alignment with government planning frameworks.
Deputy Director, Legal Services (NDMA 3) — heads NDMA’s legal function. Responsibilities include providing legal advisory services, managing litigation, reviewing contracts and MoUs, and ensuring regulatory compliance with the NDMA Act and related legislation.
Senior Administrative Officer (NDMA 6) — manages administrative services including office operations, records management, facilities, and support services across NDMA departments.
Human Resource Management Officer II (NDMA 8 — 3 posts) — handles recruitment, staff welfare, performance management, payroll support, and compliance with the Kenya Public Service HR policies. IHRM Kenya membership is applicable at this level.
Finance & Accounts Officer II (NDMA 8 — 2 posts) — manages financial transactions, prepares accounts, handles statutory compliance, and supports budget monitoring within NDMA’s finance function. ICPAK certification is standard for this grade.
Administrative Officer III (NDMA 9 — 2 posts) — entry-to-mid level administrative support covering office correspondence, scheduling, records, and departmental coordination.
Drivers III (NDMA 11 — 2 posts) — provides transport services for NDMA staff and official vehicles. Requirements typically include a valid BCE driving licence, clean driving record, and basic vehicle maintenance skills. PSV licence is an advantage.
Drought Management Coordination Officer II (NDMA 8 — 4 posts) — the largest intake and most mission-specific role. These officers coordinate drought response activities at county and community level, manage early warning systems, support livelihoods programming, and liaise with county governments and humanitarian partners in drought-prone regions. A background in development studies, natural resource management, public health, or a related field is typical for this role.
