What These Roles Involve
Ship Surveyors and Trainee Ship Surveyors (12 + 10 posts) — the largest intake. Surveyors inspect vessels for structural integrity, safety equipment, and compliance with international maritime conventions. Trainee positions suit candidates with marine engineering or nautical science backgrounds entering the field. KMA is Kenya’s flag state authority, so surveyors work to IMO international standards.
Marine Environment Officer — monitors and enforces compliance with marine pollution prevention regulations, including MARPOL convention requirements.
Maritime Security Surveyor — implements ISPS Code requirements across Kenyan ports and vessels.
Search and Rescue Officer — coordinates Kenya’s maritime search and rescue operations in line with international SAR conventions.
Legal Officer (Maritime Governance) — handles maritime law, regulatory compliance, contract drafting, and governance matters for the Authority.
Supply Chain Management Officer — manages procurement in line with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act 2015. KISM membership is typically required at this grade.
Auditor — conducts internal audits of KMA’s financial and operational systems. ICPAK certification applicable.
Accounts Assistant (5 posts) — supports financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting within KMA’s finance function.
Office Administrator / Assistant Office Administrator — manages office operations, correspondence, records, and administrative support to department heads.
Office Assistant (4 posts) — entry-level support across KMA departments including mail, filing, and general office duties.
Senior roles (Grade 5) — Logistics Training Officer and Ports & Shipping Services Officer require substantial experience and are management-track positions within KMA’s technical departments.
