Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) is hiring a Pharmacist Intern based in Nairobi for a 3-month engagement starting immediately, with the possibility of extension. If you hold a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, are registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) of Kenya, and want to move beyond clinical practice into health policy and private-sector advocacy, apply before 20th April 2026 — applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early.

    About This Role

As Pharmacist Intern at Kenya Healthcare Federation Nairobi, you will support KHF’s advocacy work on pharmaceutical pricing, importation, local manufacturing, and supply chain resilience. This is not a dispensary or hospital role. You will be working at the policy level — drafting technical documents, supporting engagement with regulatory bodies like the PPB, and contributing to evidence-based advocacy that shapes how pharmaceuticals are regulated and supplied in Kenya’s private health sector.

The role sits within KHF’s Secretariat and gives you direct exposure to how health policy is developed and influenced at the national level. You will attend sector meetings, record minutes, track action points, and help prepare briefing materials for KHF leadership and external stakeholders including government agencies and development partners.

This opportunity suits a recently registered pharmacist who wants to understand the health system beyond clinical work — someone curious about regulation, supply chains, and how policy decisions affect the medicines Kenyans access every day.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Draft policy briefs, white papers, position papers, and technical documents on pharmaceutical and supply chain matters.
    • Support KHF’s engagement with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and other relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies.
    • Contribute to advocacy efforts on pharmaceutical pricing, importation, local manufacturing, and supply chain resilience.
    • Conduct desk research and literature reviews, compiling data to support evidence-based advocacy work.
    • Support the planning, logistics, and coordination of sector meetings, forums, and multi-stakeholder convenings.
    • Attend meetings, record accurate minutes, and follow up on action points to completion.
    • Assist in preparing presentations, briefing notes, and background documents for KHF meetings and leadership engagements.
    • Support coordination of internal and external communications as directed by the supervisor.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Essential:

    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from a recognised Kenyan or accredited institution.
    • Current registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) of Kenya — this is a mandatory requirement.
    • Strong interest in health policy, pharmaceutical regulation, and supply chain management.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — ability to draft clear, well-structured technical documents.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesise research into actionable insights.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.

    Desirable:

    • Prior exposure to supply chain management, public health, or health policy work.
    • Experience attending formal meetings and recording professional minutes.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Pharmaceutical and regulatory knowledge — practical understanding of PPB requirements, drug importation, and supply chain frameworks in Kenya.
    • Policy document drafting — ability to write technically sound, well-structured briefs and position papers.
    • Research and analysis — conducting literature reviews and translating findings into useful advocacy content.
    • Stakeholder coordination — supporting multi-stakeholder meetings involving government, development partners, and private sector actors.
    • Attention to detail — accuracy in minutes, documents, and action tracking matters at this level.
    • Professionalism and discretion — you will be working with senior health sector leaders and sensitive policy information.

    What Kenya Healthcare Federation Offers

    • A monthly stipend (amount communicated during the recruitment process).
    • Hands-on experience in health policy development and private sector advocacy at the national level.
    • Exposure to high-level stakeholder engagements with government officials, development partners, and industry leaders.
    • Mentorship from experienced health systems professionals within KHF’s Secretariat.
    • Certificate of internship completion from KHF upon successful completion of the 3-month programme.

    About Kenya Healthcare Federation

KHF serves as the Health Sector Board of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and is headquartered at Kedong House, Lenana Road, Nairobi.

KHF advocates for an enabling policy and regulatory environment for Kenya’s private health sector, working through evidence-based engagement with government, development partners, and industry stakeholders.
