Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) is hiring a Programs & Advocacy Intern to support its Nairobi Secretariat for a 3-month engagement, with possibility of extension. This role is open to graduates from a wide range of backgrounds — healthcare, business, social sciences, law, public health, and communications — and offers a stipend. The deadline is 20th April 2026, but applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so do not wait.
About This Role
As Programs & Advocacy Intern at Kenya Healthcare Federation Nairobi, you will work across KHF’s core Secretariat functions — supporting program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy documentation. Unlike sector-specific intern roles, this position is designed for someone who can move fluidly between tasks: drafting a briefing note in the morning, coordinating meeting logistics in the afternoon, and following up on action items with government stakeholders the same week.
You will prepare and distribute meeting packs, write minutes, assist with multi-stakeholder convenings, and contribute to KHF’s portfolio of policy documents including position papers, white papers, and concept notes. The role involves occasional field assignments outside Nairobi, so flexibility to travel within Kenya is required.
This suits a self-starter who is organised, writes clearly, and has a genuine interest in how Kenya’s health sector is governed and shaped at the policy level — whether your background is in healthcare, business, law, or social sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft policy briefs, white papers, position papers, concept notes, proposals, and other technical documents as directed.
- Support the planning, logistics, and coordination of KHF meetings, forums, workshops, and stakeholder events.
- Attend meetings and stakeholder engagements, take accurate minutes, and track action items through to completion.
- Assist in preparing briefing notes, presentations, and talking points for KHF leadership.
- Help coordinate multi-stakeholder convenings involving government agencies, development partners, and private sector actors.
- Manage correspondence, filing, scheduling, and logistical coordination for the Secretariat.
- Prepare and distribute meeting packs, agendas, and post-meeting reports.
- Support internal and external communications coordination as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential: KHF welcomes applications from a range of academic backgrounds. Suitable candidates hold a degree in one of the following:
- Commerce (B.Com) with a focus in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
- Medicine or clinical training with an interest in health systems and policy.
- Public Health, Health Management, Social Sciences, Communications, Law, or a related discipline.
In addition, you should demonstrate:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — ability to produce well-structured documents under time pressure.
- Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
- Genuine interest in Kenya’s health sector, health policy, and private sector engagement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
Desirable:
- Prior experience attending formal meetings and producing professional minutes.
- Exposure to health sector organisations, NGOs, or advocacy bodies.
- Familiarity with Kenya’s county health system or national health policy processes.
Skills and Competencies
- Policy and technical writing — ability to draft structured, evidence-informed documents for diverse audiences.
- Event and meeting coordination — managing logistics for forums and convenings involving senior stakeholders.
- Stakeholder engagement — professional communication with government officials, development partners, and private sector actors.
- Organisational discipline — managing schedules, filing, correspondence, and action tracking simultaneously.
- MS Office proficiency — producing clean, well-formatted documents, presentations, and reports.
- Discretion and professionalism — working within a sensitive policy environment with senior health sector leadership.
What Kenya Healthcare Federation Offers
- A monthly stipend (communicated during the recruitment process).
- Broad exposure to health sector policy, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement at both national and county levels.
- Experience working alongside senior government officials, development partners, and private sector executives.
- Mentorship and professional development support from KHF’s experienced Secretariat team.
- Networking opportunities within Kenya’s healthcare ecosystem.
- Certificate of internship completion from KHF upon successful completion.
