The Food Library, a venture by JIT, is a distinguished dining establishment in Nairobi seeking to grow its front-of-house team with passionate, experienced, and service-driven hospitality professionals. Three positions are currently open.
Waiter / Waitress
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests to their tables and present menus in a professional and friendly manner
- Take food and beverage orders accurately and relay them correctly to the kitchen and bar teams
- Deliver food and drinks to tables promptly, ensuring correct orders reach the correct guests
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the full menu, including daily specials, ingredients, and allergens
- Anticipate guest needs and respond to requests attentively throughout the dining experience
- Upsell menu items, beverages, and desserts where appropriate to enhance the guest experience
- Handle minor guest concerns or complaints calmly and escalate where necessary to the supervisor
- Collaborate with runners, baristas, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and timely service
- Ensure tables are properly set, cleared, and reset between covers in line with restaurant standards
- Maintain a clean, organised, and presentable work area at all times during service
Hostess
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Serve as the first point of contact for all guests, welcoming them warmly upon arrival
- Manage the reservations system, confirming bookings and coordinating table assignments efficiently
- Handle walk-in guests professionally, managing seating availability and wait times with clarity
- Communicate table status and guest flow updates to the Floor Supervisor and service team in real time
- Escort guests to their tables and introduce them to their assigned waiter
- Monitor the entrance area throughout service, ensuring no guest is left unattended or unacknowledged
- Manage guest departures graciously, thanking them and inviting them to return
- Maintain an organised and up-to-date record of reservations, covers, and special requests
- Coordinate with management on large bookings, VIP guests, and special seating arrangements
- Uphold a polished, professional appearance and a composed demeanour at all times during service
Supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the front-of-house team throughout service, ensuring all staff perform to the required standards
- Monitor table coverage, service timelines, and guest satisfaction across the entire dining floor
- Act as the first point of escalation for guest complaints, handling concerns with professionalism and sound judgement
- Brief the service team before each shift on reservations, specials, allergen information, and service expectations
- Provide real-time coaching and guidance to waitstaff and runners during service
- Liaise continuously with the kitchen team to manage order flow, timing, and any service challenges
- Ensure all tables are correctly set, maintained, and reset in line with restaurant standards
- Monitor staff punctuality, presentation, and conduct throughout each shift
- Report any operational issues, staff performance concerns, or recurring service gaps to management
- Support management in training new front-of-house staff and embedding service standards across the team
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene protocols throughout the venue at all times

- Prior experience in a reputable restaurant or hospitality environment is required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High standard of personal presentation and grooming
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume service environment
