The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is an advisory and research organisation focused on the evaluation and implementation of behavioral interventions in understudied countries and populations. Busara’s mission is to work with researchers and organisations to advance and apply behavioral science in pursuit of poverty alleviation. They are currently seeking Field Officers to join their project teams in Nairobi on a full-time basis.
About the Role
Field Officers will work closely with the Project Lead and the wider project team to carry out field-based research activities. This is a hands-on, fieldwork-intensive role that requires individuals who are detail-oriented, disciplined in following research protocols, and committed to producing high-quality data. You will be a critical link between the research design and its real-world implementation, directly influencing the quality and integrity of findings that inform poverty alleviation programmes.
What You Will Be Doing
Your primary responsibility will be administering surveys and conducting quantitative interviews in strict accordance with project protocols and ethical standards. You will collect accurate, high-quality data using approved research tools, and are expected to develop a thorough understanding of each research instrument and its study objectives before and during data collection.
Maintaining data integrity is a central part of this role. You will be required to adhere to all data collection protocols at all times, maintain detailed notes on field activities, and promptly flag any issues that could affect data quality to the Project Lead. Daily progress reports to the Project Lead are a standard expectation of the role.
You will also coordinate with fellow team members to ensure the smooth implementation of field activities, and will be expected to uphold the confidentiality, dignity, and rights of all research participants throughout. Where ethical concerns arise, you are expected to escalate them appropriately. Where required, you will support the translation and back-translation of research instruments. Additional duties may be assigned by the project supervisor as the work demands.
