Role Overview
The Data Collection Coordinator will be responsible for the systematic collection, management, and quality assurance of data generated by the company. The role supports evidence-based project management by ensuring that timely, accurate, and gender-disaggregated data is available for monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and adaptive management. The coordinator will work closely with sub-county coordinators and Meat & Co field staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage data collection tools and systems — both paper-based and digital — for tracking all project KPIs
- Collect and compile data on pastoralist registration, livestock offtake, fodder production, animal health, infrastructure, and capacity building activities
- Maintain registers of all farmers recruited on the programme including gender-disaggregated records
- Support weekly and monthly reporting to the team using project dashboards
- Conduct data quality checks and verification visits to project sites across target pastoralist counties
- Coordinate with sub-county coordinators to ensure accurate and timely data submission from the field
- Manage livestock tracking data including vaccination records, tagging deployment, and traceability information
- Support the dynamic evaluation process by providing timely data
- Compile datasets required for research papers, reports, and policy briefs prepared for the project team
- Ensure all data collected complies with the Kenya Data Protection Act No. 24 of 2019 and project confidentiality requirements
- Train field staff on data collection protocols and tools as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Information Management, Social Sciences, Agricultural Economics, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in data collection and management within a development programme or agricultural/livestock project
- Proficiency in mobile data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, and CommCare, and Microsoft Excel or equivalent data analysis tools
- Experience working in rural or pastoral settings in Kenya is strongly preferred
- Understanding of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks and results-based management
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to train and supervise community-level data collectors
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of a local pastoral language is an added advantage
Key Performance Indicators
- Completeness and accuracy of programme data submissions on weekly and monthly dashboards (≥95% data completeness)
- Timely compilation of farmer registers and gender-disaggregated data reports
- Number of data quality verification visits completed per quarter
- Quality of datasets submitted for programme reports and evaluation activities
