Pay: $15–$25 USD per audio hour transcribed
Remote / Freelance / Contract / Immediate Start
About the Role
We’re looking for skilled Swahili audio transcribers to convert spoken audio into accurate, well-formatted written text. You’ll work with a variety of audio content — interviews, conversations, podcasts, and field recordings — that blend standard Kiswahili with local slang and regional dialects.
This is a great opportunity for language enthusiasts who love the nuances of how Kiswahili is actually spoken on the streets, in markets, and across different communities.
What You’ll Do
– Transcribe Swahili audio recordings into accurate written text
– Capture slang, code-switching, and dialectal expressions faithfully
– Flag unclear audio segments and provide contextual notes where needed
– Maintain consistent formatting and follow our style guide
– Deliver completed transcripts within assigned deadlines
What We’re Looking For
– Native or near-native fluency in Kiswahili (spoken and written)
– Fluency in at least one of the following:
– Nairobi Sheng
– A Kenyan or Tanzanian tribal language (e.g., Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kamba, Kalenjin, Chaga, Haya, etc.)
– Sharp attention to detail — you catch the small stuff others miss
– Comfortable working under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality
– Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace
– Ability to use headphones and transcription software
Nice to Have:
– Prior transcription, translation, or subtitling experience
– Experience with linguistic annotation or data labeling for AI/ML projects
What We Offer
– Flexible remote work — take on as much or as little as fits your schedule
– Steady pipeline of work for reliable performers
– Fast, consistent payment
*We welcome applicants from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and the wider Swahili-speaking diaspora. Karibu sana!*
