Hospital Housekeeper – Nyali at Chiromo Hospital Group

Job Purpose

The Hospital Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is critical in preventing infections and ensuring compliance with healthcare hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect patient rooms, wards, operating areas, and public spaces according to hospital protocols
• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal
• Properly handle and dispose of medical and general waste following safety guidelines
• Sanitize high-touch surfaces (e.g., bed rails, door handles, medical equipment) regularly
• Replenish supplies such as soap, hand sanitizers, and paper products
• Respond promptly to spills, contamination, or emergency cleaning needs
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
• Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and appropriately
• Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor
• Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy

Qualifications and Requirements

• Certificate or secondary school education (KCSE or equivalent preferred)
• Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility
• Knowledge of infection control and hygiene standards is an added advantage
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
• Good physical stamina and ability to handle manual tasks
• Basic communication skills (English and/or Kiswahili)
