About This Role
The Graduate Trainee – Underwriting will work under the direct guidance of Senior Underwriters within Fortune Technologies Kenya’s Accident & Health department. Key Responsibilities
Technical Underwriting
- Underwrite new and renewal business under supervision of a Senior Underwriter
- Assist Senior Underwriters with new business quotes and client queries
- Capture all relevant risk information into the underwriting system accurately, ensuring full compliance with underwriting guidelines and procedures
Business Development & Retention
- Identify opportunities to improve cross-selling initiatives within the Profit Centre
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, clients, and business intermediaries
Business Operations
- Manage assigned accounts ensuring efficient document workflow in line with operational procedures
- Adhere to internal SLAs to ensure operational efficiency and achievement of agreed customer service standards
Audit & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to business rules, regulatory requirements, and compliance guidelines at all times
Required Qualifications
Education
- University degree in Actuarial Science or any business-related degree
Professional Qualifications
- Progress towards a Diploma in Insurance (AIIK or CII) is an added advantage — not a prerequisite
Experience & Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of or experience in General Insurance operations
- Creative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
Skills
- Good communication skills — written and verbal
- Working knowledge of MS Office
