Category: NGO | Community Development | Youth & Women Empowerment Location: Butula Sub-County, Busia County, Kenya | Deadline: 14th April 2026
Undugu Empowerment Programs (UEP) is recruiting a Project Officer to join their team in Butula Sub-County, Busia County. If you have a background in community development, social work, or a related field and a genuine passion for youth and women empowerment, this is a role worth pursuing with full seriousness.
About Undugu Empowerment Programs
Undugu Empowerment Programs is a Kenya-based NGO working to promote the wellbeing of women and young people in low-income communities. Through programmes such as Sista Plus, the Urban Health and Empowerment Fund (UHEF), Hope for Teen Mothers, and the Youth Livelihood Initiative, UEP delivers community-based interventions that address gender inequality, adolescent vulnerability, and economic exclusion at the grassroots level.
The organisation is rooted in its community — operating from Butula Sub-County and maintaining close relationships with schools, youth groups, and women’s organisations across Busia County.
The Role: Project Officer
The Project Officer will play a central coordination and implementation role across UEP’s active project portfolio. This is a hands-on position that combines fieldwork, relationship management, data collection, and donor reporting — requiring someone who is as comfortable in a community meeting as they are preparing a quarterly report.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the implementation of the Sista Plus, UHEF, Hope for Teen Mothers, and Youth Livelihood projects
- Track project progress, collect data, and prepare monthly and quarterly reports
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth groups, and women’s organisations
- Organise training sessions, mentorship activities, and community awareness campaigns
- Provide administrative, logistics, and donor reporting support across all assigned projects
Job Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Project Management, Public Health, Education, or a related field
- At least two to three years of experience implementing community-based projects
- Experience working with youth, adolescent girls, or women empowerment programmes is highly desirable
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability in monitoring, reporting, documentation, and project presentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office — Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Why This Role Stands Out
This is not a desk-based position. The Project Officer at UEP will be embedded in communities across Busia County, working directly with some of Kenya’s most underserved populations — teen mothers, adolescent girls, and young people seeking economic pathways out of poverty. For a development professional who wants their work to have direct, visible impact, this is exactly the kind of role that delivers it.
The organisation also offers the rare opportunity to work across multiple programmes simultaneously, building a versatile skillset in project coordination, community engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and donor relations — all within a single role.
Why Your Application Documents Must Be Strong
UEP is a focused, mission-driven organisation. They are not looking for a generic applicant — they are looking for someone who understands community development at the grassroots level and can articulate that understanding clearly in writing.
Your cover letter must go beyond restating your CV. It should speak directly to UEP’s work, demonstrate your understanding of the communities they serve, and make a compelling case for why you are the right person to coordinate their projects in Busia County.
Your CV must include two references who can speak credibly to your community development experience. Presentation, accuracy, and professionalism in your application documents will speak directly to the monitoring, documentation, and reporting skills the role demands.
