Job Title: Field Research Officer (Nandi & Uasin Gishu)

About the Role
FIPS Solutions is seeking a Field Research Officer to support the implementation of seasonal field trials, data collection, and farmer engagement within Nandi and Uasin Gishu. The role is critical in ensuring high-quality research execution, accurate data collection, and meaningful insights that drive agricultural impact for smallholder farmers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Implementation of Seasonal Field Trials
- Understand and deliver seasonal targets for both mother and baby trials
- Identify and select appropriate trial sites in line with established protocols
- Effectively communicate trial objectives and requirements to participating farmers
- Coordinate trial establishment with farmers and casual labor, where required
- Monitor trial progress and ensure proper agronomic management (weeding, pest control, etc.)
- Collect accurate field data using ODK tools and other assigned systems
- Conduct final data collection during harvest periods
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all trial products and research activities
2. Reporting & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide weekly updates on trial progress through meetings and designated communication channels
- Document and share learnings from the field to support continuous improvement
- Gather and report farmer feedback on trial performance and observations
- Support farmers in addressing challenges, in collaboration with the programs team
3. Entrepreneurial & Business Responsibility
- Promote and support income-generating opportunities aligned with FIPS’ approach, including marketing of WonderGro Soil Conditioner
- Maintain professional and financially responsible relationships with input suppliers and partners
- Ensure appropriate and authorized use of FIPS’ brand in all engagements
- Manage and repay any input-related credit in a timely and responsible manner
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field
- Experience in field research, agricultural trials, or farmer engagement is an added advantage
- Familiarity with data collection tools (e.g., ODK)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with rural farming communities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple field sites
