The Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Chef to oversee kitchen operations within its Guest House and hospitality facilities. This role is ideal for a culinary professional with strong leadership skills, a passion for quality food service, and experience working in fast-paced institutional or hospitality environments.
Job Summary
The Head Chef will be responsible for managing all kitchen operations, developing high-quality and cost-effective menus, and ensuring exceptional food standards. The role involves leading and motivating kitchen staff, maintaining food safety compliance, managing inventory, and delivering outstanding guest dining experiences while achieving set food cost margins.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Planning & Development

Design, plan, and implement creative and innovative menus in line with cost margin guidelines

Consider guest preferences and organizational standards when developing menus
Kitchen Operations Management
-
Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient service delivery

Ensure food preparation, cooking, and presentation meet high quality and consistency standards
Staff Supervision & Training
-
Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate kitchen staff
-
Prepare staff schedules, manage leave and off days, and ensure adequate coverage during peak periods
Inventory & Cost Control
-
Manage food and kitchen supplies inventory, storage, and stock rotation
-
Control food costs through effective ordering, portion control, and waste reduction

Maintain accurate inventory and cost records
Health, Safety & Compliance
-
Enforce strict food hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards
-
Ensure compliance with local authority and public health regulations
Guest Experience & Collaboration

Ensure food quality and presentation exceed guest expectations

Address guest feedback related to food service promptly
-
Collaborate with service teams, management, sales, and marketing to support events, promotions, and financial goals
Additional Duties

Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by management
Required Qualifications & Experience

Diploma in Culinary Arts from a recognized hospitality training institution

Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management is an added advantage

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a busy kitchen environment
-
At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role (Sous Chef or higher)
