AfricaNenda Foundation is hiring a Program Support Intern for a paid, full-time, 6-month remote engagement. This is a real opportunity to work at the heart of Africa’s digital financial inclusion agenda — and if you have a degree in a relevant field and a genuine interest in digital payments, you should apply before the deadline of 29th May 2026.
About This Role
This internship sits within AfricaNenda’s Projects team, where you will provide direct support across research, project management, stakeholder engagement, and campaign execution. The work is varied — one day you might be preparing a briefing document for a policy advocacy session, the next you are updating a stakeholder tracker or helping coordinate a virtual capacity-building event. It is the kind of role where no two weeks look exactly the same.
AfricaNenda operates at a continental scale, working with governments, regulators, and private sector actors across Africa to build inclusive instant payment systems. That means the work you do here has real reach — the research you compile or the materials you help produce can end up informing national payment policy in countries across the continent.
This role suits someone who is self-directed, organised, and genuinely curious about how digital payments and financial inclusion work in practice. You do not need years of professional experience, but you do need to bring sharp analytical thinking, strong written English, and the ability to manage multiple tasks without being micromanaged.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct desk research to support team presentations, advocacy briefs, and capacity development materials.
- Monitor and track industry trends, advocacy platforms, and key moments relevant to inclusive instant payment systems across Africa.
- Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and briefing documents for internal and external use.
- Support the organisation of virtual and in-person amplification events and capacity-building sessions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Develop and maintain project tracking tools, ensuring timely updates and clear documentation.
- Record meeting minutes, track action items, and follow up on outstanding deliverables.
- Maintain and update stakeholder contact lists and track engagement metrics across various initiatives.
- Assist in executing cross-functional campaign activities as part of AfricaNenda’s annual advocacy calendar.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, business administration, international relations, social sciences, or a related field
- Strong research and analytical skills with experience producing written outputs — reports, briefs, presentations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite — Word, Excel, and PowerPoint specifically
- Basic project management skills and familiarity with data tracking and reporting
- Genuine interest in financial inclusion, digital payments, or digital financial services
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of French or Portuguese — a strong added advantage given AfricaNenda’s multilingual operating environment
- Familiarity with social media tools and digital advocacy platforms
- Understanding of the digital financial services ecosystem and current trends in African payments
Skills and Competencies
- Research synthesis — ability to pull information from multiple sources and distil it into clear, useful outputs
- Written communication — producing clean, well-structured documents for varied audiences
- Stakeholder coordination — maintaining accurate records and following up across multiple workstreams
- Self-management — prioritising your own tasks and delivering without needing constant direction
- Digital fluency — comfortable working with online collaboration tools, spreadsheets, and virtual event platforms
- Attention to detail — especially in data entry, stakeholder tracking, and document quality control
What AfricaNenda Foundation Offers
This is a paid internship. The specific stipend figure is not publicly stated, but AfricaNenda positions this as a compensated engagement. Beyond the financial element, the learning exposure here is significant — you will gain hands-on experience in digital financial services, inclusive payment systems, project management, and pan-African policy advocacy. For any Kenyan professional building a career in fintech, development finance, or international development, AfricaNenda is the kind of organisation that carries real weight on a CV.
