About This Role
As a Community Interviewer at KEMRI, you will play a hands-on role in supporting public health research at the grassroots level. You will work closely with clinic teams and research staff to identify, recruit, and follow up with study participants within communities. Your day-to-day work will involve engaging with people in the field, explaining study objectives, and ensuring participants remain involved throughout the research period. You will also support data collection efforts and help maintain strong relationships between researchers and the community—an essential part of successful health studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and recruit eligible participants in collaboration with clinic teams.
- Conduct community outreach activities to engage and inform potential study participants.
- Support retention strategies to ensure participants remain active in the study.
- Attend and actively participate in training sessions, meetings, and research activities.
- Report any challenges or issues observed during fieldwork to the study team.
- Maintain accurate records of participant interactions and activities.
- Work closely with study coordinators and principal investigators to support research goals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- KCSE certificate with a minimum grade of C- (Minus) or equivalent.
- Certificate in computer packages (basic IT skills required).
- Experience in community-based research activities.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Willingness to live and work within the study area (mandatory).
Desirable:
- Experience working in a hospital or research environment.
- Prior involvement in health-related community projects.
Skills and Competencies
