Are you a creative storyteller with videography skills and a passion for grassroots women’s leadership? Badili Africa, a Pan-African women’s rights organisation based in Nairobi, is hiring a Communications Assistant to capture and share powerful community-driven stories. This six-month in-person role offers an immediate start, with the deadline to apply for this Communications Assistant Badili Africa Nairobi 2026 position being 1st May 2026.
About This Role
This is not a desk-bound communications job. You will be on the ground at community activations, behind the camera, and at your keyboard telling stories that are honest, powerful, and centred on grassroots women and young people. Working closely with the Communications Lead, you will drive Badili Africa’s content output with a primary focus on videography and written communication.
Key Responsibilities
-
Assist in videography and video content production for Badili Africa’s campaigns, events, field activations, and digital platforms, including shooting, editing, and post-production.
-
Develop short-form video content for social media (Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts), as well as longer documentary-style pieces capturing community stories and organisational milestones.
-
Contribute to Badili Africa’s editorial output, including blog posts, news pieces, op-eds, and organisational reports, using a clear, grounded, and accessible voice.
-
Draft and edit communications materials, including campaign messaging, social media captions, newsletters, and internal communications.
-
Assist in managing and scheduling content across Badili Africa’s digital platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube), ensuring consistency in voice, branding, and frequency.
-
Coordinate with program and field teams to document community events, dialogues, and activations through photography, video, and written records.
-
Support internal communications to keep staff informed about organisational updates, campaign milestones, and ongoing initiatives.
-
Monitor social media trends and platform updates, providing feedback to continuously improve content performance and engagement.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
-
Demonstrated videography skills, including shooting, editing, and producing video content for digital platforms. A portfolio or reel is required as part of your application.
-
Strong writing ability, with demonstrated experience producing blogs, op-eds, feature stories, or news pieces, ideally in civil society, gender, or civic space. Writing samples are required.
-
A degree from a recognised university in communications, film, media studies, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Familiarity with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve) and social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok).
-
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple content streams and deadlines without compromising on quality.
Desirable:
-
Experience working with or documenting the work of grassroots communities, young women, or civic organisations.
-
A genuine interest in gender justice, civic participation, and storytelling that centres community voices over institutional narratives.
-
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with community members during field documentation.
Skills and Competencies
-
Videography & editing: You know how to shoot, edit, and produce engaging video content for different digital platforms.
-
Storytelling: You write clearly and powerfully, whether it is a 30-second caption or a 1,000-word blog post.
-
Social media fluency: You understand how Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube work, and you know what content performs well on each.
-
Time management: You can juggle multiple content streams and deadlines while maintaining quality.
