Clinical recruitment specialist with experience placing theatre and perioperative nursing professionals across Kenya’s private hospital sector | Last updated: April 2026
The Westlands Specialist Hospital (WSH) in Nairobi is hiring a Certified Theatre Nurse to join their surgical team. The deadline is 21 April 2026 — that’s very soon, so if you’re qualified, submit your application today. This is a hands-on theatre role in one of Nairobi’s established private specialist hospitals, and they want someone who can function confidently in a busy operating environment from day one.
About This Role
WSH is looking for a theatre nurse with genuine perioperative experience — not someone transitioning from general nursing hoping to learn on the job. You’ll be scrubbing and circulating during surgical procedures, maintaining sterile fields, and managing patient monitoring across the full surgical episode: pre-op, intra-op, and post-op. The certification in perioperative/theatre nursing is listed as mandatory, not preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile operating theatre environment before and between procedures
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures in both scrub and circulating nurse roles
- Monitor patients pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively
- Enforce strict infection prevention and control (IPC) standards throughout theatre operations
- Maintain accurate patient records and theatre documentation
- Collaborate with anaesthesiologists, surgeons, and theatre support staff during procedures
The scrub and circulating dual-role requirement tells you this is a lean surgical team — you need to be versatile and confident switching between both functions depending on the case load.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution
- Valid NCK (Nursing Council of Kenya) practicing licence — current and unendorsed
- Certification in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing — this is mandatory, not optional
- 3–5 years of experience working in a busy hospital theatre
The 3–5 years minimum is firm. If you’re sitting at 1–2 years of theatre experience, this posting isn’t for you yet — wait until you’ve built that time. If you hold an ACLS or BLS certification alongside your perioperative qualification, include it in your application.
Nurses interested in international pathways should note that verified theatre nursing experience and perioperative certification are among the strongest qualifications for overseas placement — particularly under the UK NMC nursing registration pathway and Gulf Cooperation Council hospital recruitment programmes.
What They Offer
WSH hasn’t published a salary range for this position. Theatre nursing roles at Nairobi’s private specialist hospitals at the 3–5 year experience level typically fall in the KES 60,000–110,000/month range depending on seniority and the hospital’s pay structure. Use LinkedIn Salary or Glassdoor Kenya to benchmark before negotiating. Benefits at private specialist hospitals in Nairobi commonly include medical cover and a structured shift allowance for theatre staff.
