About This Role
The Accounts Assistant works closely with the Finance Manager and commercial team to keep accounts receivable accurate, customer accounts reconciled, and financial records audit-ready. The role directly impacts collections performance, order-processing turnaround times, and overall financial data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile customer accounts daily, post and allocate payments accurately, and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain a monthly projected collections schedule and share outstanding balance reports with the commercial team
- Reconcile cash accounts daily and track collected cheques
- Send monthly customer statements by the 5th of the following month
- Receipt and confirm payments to support timely order processing
- Post and reconcile petty cash transactions and ensure supporting documentation is complete
- Process casual labour payment requests after reconciling billings and obtaining approvals
- Maintain the fixed asset register — tag new assets, post monthly depreciation, and support periodic asset verification
- Support periodic stock takes and audits by preparing and providing required documentation
- File accounting documents daily in an organised, audit-ready manner
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA Part II or equivalent progress toward a professional qualification
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience — trading or distribution company preferred
- Proficiency in Tally, QuickBooks, and MS Excel
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and Kenyan tax/statutory requirements
