HR Officer Job at Smoothtel — Here's Everything You Need to Know
A real opportunity to grow your HR career with one of Kenya's forward-thinking tech companies. Deadline: April 14, 2026.
Smoothtel is not just any company. Their tagline is "Delivering The Future Technology Today" — and they are looking for HR talent that matches that energy. This role is for someone who wants to make real impact.
What Is This Job About?
Smoothtel is hiring a Human Resource Officer to manage and support core HR operations. Think of it as being the backbone of everything people-related inside the company — from the moment someone applies for a job to when they are fully settled and thriving at work.
Human Resource Officer
You will support recruitment, maintain HR databases, coordinate onboarding, help implement HR policies, handle employee relations, ensure compliance with labor laws, assist with performance appraisals, and prepare HR reports. That is a solid, well-rounded HR role — not just one narrow task.
Here is why this matters: End-to-end HR exposure at one company is worth more than 5 years of doing one narrow task somewhere else. This role gives you the full picture.
What Will You Actually Do Day-to-Day?
Here is a realistic picture of your week in this role:
-
1Run End-to-End Recruitment
Post job ads, screen CVs, schedule interviews and help managers make the right hire. You own the entire pipeline.
-
2Keep Employee Records Accurate
Maintain up-to-date employee files and HR databases — this is critical for audits, payroll, and compliance.

5Handle Employee Relations & Compliance
Be the go-to person for employee concerns. Make sure the company stays compliant with Kenya's labor laws at all times.

📋 Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
- CHRP Finalist (or working toward it)
- Minimum 3 years of HR experience
- Strong knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices

🧠 Key Competencies
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution ability
- High attention to detail
- Can work independently and in a team
- Integrity and confidentiality — non-negotiable
The CHRP Finalist requirement means you should be actively enrolled in or have completed the CHRP program with IHRM Kenya. If you have not started yet, this might still be a role to bookmark for later — or start the program now and apply to similar roles as you progress.
Three years of HR experience sounds like a lot — but if you have been in an HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, or generalist role, that counts. Do not count yourself out before you apply.
How to Stand Out From Other Applicants
Hundreds of people will see this job ad. Here is how you make sure your application gets noticed:
- Tailor your CV to match Smoothtel's keywords — recruitment, compliance, HR databases, onboarding, performance management
- Write a cover letter that speaks directly to their mission of "Delivering The Future Technology Today" — show you understand a fast-moving tech company
- Quantify your achievements — "reduced time-to-hire by 30%" sounds far better than "managed recruitment"
- Mention specific HR systems you have used (e.g. HRIS, BambooHR, Workday, or any ERP with an HR module)
- Reference your CHRP progress if applicable — it shows commitment to the profession
- Keep your CV to 2 pages maximum — clean, professional, and easy to scan
"The best HR professionals are not just administrators — they are business partners who understand people AND strategy. Show Smoothtel that you are that person."
