TCI Global is hiring a Research Assistant on a short-term consultancy basis to support documentation and report drafting work across their Secretariat team. This is a fully remote role running from 1 June to 30 November 2026, paying USD 3,500 for the contract period. If you have a background in disability rights, report writing, or development documentation, apply before 10 May 2026.
About This Role
The Research Assistant TCI Global Remote Kenya 2026 consultancy is a structured writing and documentation support role. TCI’s Secretariat is managing multiple ongoing workstreams — reports, briefs, and documents — and needs additional capacity to organise existing materials, produce clean drafts, and push deliverables to final, submission-ready form.
You will report directly to the Director of Advocacy and Research and work alongside assigned Secretariat focal points on a report-by-report basis. The work is remote and deadline-driven, with weekly check-in calls and email updates keeping the team aligned. This role suits a self-directed professional who can take raw notes, transcripts, and meeting minutes and turn them into well-structured, readable documents without much hand-holding.
Preference will be given to persons with disabilities or those with prior association with the international disability rights movement.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and write reports and short documents from existing internal materials including notes, minutes, and transcripts
- Organise information into clean records covering initial drafts, tracked-change versions, and final outputs
- Conduct targeted desk research to fill data and information gaps, including policy references, legal frameworks, and citation sourcing
- Maintain a structured Google Drive docket of organised notes, materials, and reference links for each report
- Update a simple weekly progress tracker in Google Sheets or Excel throughout the assignment
- Deliver clean final documents in Google Docs or Word, with tracked changes where requested
- Participate in weekly touch-base calls with the Secretariat and respond to feedback promptly via email
Specific Deliverables
You will support completion of 7 documents over the contract period:
- TCI Plenary Report (1): Up to 30–32 pages covering the 2024 TCI Plenary conference. Reference materials include a concept note, documentation notes, and video recordings of panels
- Country Mission Reports (5): Up to 20–22 pages each, covering five country mobilisation missions conducted between 2023 and 2024. Reference materials include concept notes, documentation notes, and photos
- Deinstitutionalization Webinar Report (1): A draft already exists for this 2021 four-part webinar series — your task is restructuring and editing to bring it to final form
Each report must include all standard components: table of contents, list of abbreviations, executive summary, introduction, key highlights, conclusions, recommendations, and annexes/references.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- At least 2 years of experience in disability rights, inclusion documentation, or a closely related development field
- Demonstrated ability to draft and structure long-form reports from raw inputs such as notes, minutes, and transcripts
- Strong editing skills — ability to restructure existing drafts and improve clarity and consistency
- Proven time management — ability to handle multiple documents and meet deadlines
- Comfort working with sensitive and confidential internal organisational information
- Basic referencing and fact-checking skills, including proper citation formatting
- Proficiency in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Word
Desirable:
- Writing samples demonstrating CRPD-aligned (UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) documentation
- Prior experience working with or within an international disability rights organisation or OPD network
- Lived experience of disability or direct association with the disability movement
Skills and Competencies
- Strong synthesis skills — turning scattered inputs into coherent, readable narrative
- High attention to consistency in formatting, tone, and structure across long documents
- Ability to work independently in a remote setup with minimal supervision
- Clear written communication for feedback loops with a distributed team
- Discretion and professionalism when handling unpublished organisational materials
