The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) is a membership-based Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) that seeks to enhance the conservation and wise use of the environment and natural resources in East Africa for the benefit of current and future generations. Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources & Administration Manager, the incumbent performs the following duties:-
- Safely and responsibly operate the organization’s vehicles, ensuring the security and safety of passengers, cargo, and the vehicle itself
- Transports staff, visitors, and equipment to and from various locations, including project sites, meetings, workshops, and other official engagements
- Ensures that all required vehicle documents, such as registration, insurance, and permits, are up-to-date and in the vehicle at all times
- Assists with loading and unloading of materials and equipment when required
- Coordinates with the supervisor to plan and execute transportation schedules efficiently;
- Make sure that the daily log sheet is prepared, and a monthly report is prepared summarizing statistics linked to mileage, fuel consumption, etc. for the vehicle and vehicle maintenance activities
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations, including speed limits, parking regulations, and road signage. 8. Keeping vehicles cleaned, fueled, and mechanically maintained at all times
- Collect and deliver material to required destinations, and as per approved procedures.
- Perform minor repairs on EAWLS vehicles, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.
- Report any motor vehicle mechanical problems and other faults to the immediate supervisor and forward them for repairs and maintenance by the authorized agents/supplier
- Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as fuel, oil, water, tyres, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition
- Able to conduct yourself professionally when interacting with staff, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders
- Ensures adherence to proper steps, processes, rules, and regulations when involved in an accident.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned
Qualifications
Education Essential: A certificate from a recognized institution on motor vehicle mechanics or basic motor vehicle operation. The technical level of education would be an added advantage
Experience
- Must be in possession of a valid and clean driving license
- At least two years driving experience as a driver and a safe driving record.
- Certificate of good conduct and good knowledge of vehicle mechanics
Skills
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan and East African roadways, traffic laws, and routes
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver various types of vehicles, i.e manual and automatic vehicles, in different weather and road conditions
- Physical stamina and endurance to sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work irregular and long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed · Ability to write concise and faithful reports of accidents, when applicable
- Alertness, punctuality, diligence, and commitment to their work and safety
- Basic computer skills, such as using email and Microsoft Office, and basic report writing skills ·
- Basic first-aid skills
